Our
guiding team and their qualifications
In the Alps the laws governing what levels
of leader are qualified to take groups are
very strict. All climbing, glacier travel,
and off piste skiing must be led by an IFMGA
/ UIAGM International Mountain Guide. The
UK qualifications of MIC, MIA, ML(W), ML(S)
& SPA have zero standing in the Alps.
For groups involved in snowshoeing, trekking,
and avalanche awareness a UIMLA International
Mountain Leader is the qualification required.
Whatever course you are on, we ALWAYS adhere
strictly to these qualifications standards.
Our leaders are our most important asset as
far as both the clients and we are concerned,
and we take great care in recruiting suitable
leaders.
To
meet our team of IFMGA Guides and IML leaders, click
here (use
if the IFMGA and UIMLA logos below are authorised
by the named course directors on this linked
page). Anyone who applies for a leader position
will be required to provide copies of their
qualification(s) certificates, their professional
carnet, and insurance details.
If
you hold either the IFMGA or UIMLA carnet,
or your MIC or MIA for UK work, and wish to
work with us, please e-mail us to arrange
a meeting at either our Windermere office.
We do not hire anyone without meeting them
first, as we need to be completely satisfied
that you would fit with our work ethic and
standards. Most guides come recommended by
others in our team. |

We
always welcome extra applicants to join our
team of over 30 mountain guides. There is
a variety of positions from full time to freelance
that are available. Applicants must speak
fluent English and French. |

International
Mountain Leaders
Any
vacancies for IML's will be advertised through
the British Association of International Mountain
Leaders (BAIML), and will be posted on their
website forum. We would then welcome applications
from full IML's. |

Each
year we get several e-mails from people saying they
want to work for free or a low wage, to work alongside
our guiding team to get enough experience to become
qualified. We do not cater for this for three key
reasons; 1) it is illegal for anyone to work in
the Alps assisting leading a group who is not qualified
already, 2) an extra person joining a guided group
comes under the duty of care of the qualified
guide leading that group, and so reduces the number
of spaces for paying clients which makes this completely
financially unviable, or 3) the amount of previous
experience required before even starting to train
on one of the guiding schemes is so great that there
is no possible way to get the experience over any
less than circa ten seasons, let alone one season.
For details about the training schemes, click on
one of these links; IFMGA
Guides or UIMLA
Leaders. |
