Course
overview
|
|
We operate these popular Lake District based weekends (can be operated on any 2 days for 3 people booking together), on a 1:3 ratio throughout, to develop unroped scrambling skills. |
|
These weekends are ideal for those wanting to build skills to tackle challenging Lakeland classics, such as Striding or Sharp Edges, or Pavey Ark, where the distinction between walking and scrambling blurs. |
|
These weekends are aimed at beginner scramblers, who wish to build confidence and skills on this type of terrain. This is unroped scrambling, though the instructor will carry a rope as a safety backup. |
|
You
will be guided by a local instructor, who
knows the mountains and routes like the
back of their hands, so will spend the day
with a real expert who will design the day
for you to achieve the most. |
|
If
you have an idea of a specific objective or
route that you'd like to do, get in contact,
and we'll match you with the most suitable
instructor to make your ambitions come true. |
|
Dates are sceduled, and also run on demand for this training,
and we can offer them on any day of the year
apart from on Christmas Day itself. Contact us to upload a bespoke date for you to book. |

Outline itinerary
|
Meeting with your instructor at 09:00 in our Windermere
Office for a quick briefing about the
weather and a kit check, before setting off for the guiding.
It is really important to check that you have all the
right equipment, to ensure your comfort and safety in
the mountains.
1st day: Drive to a suitable location, often in the Langdale or Coniston Fells, for a route to teach you the key skills. Popular choices include Raven Crag in Yewdale, Crinkle Crags in Langdale, or the Helvellyn Edges. The choice is based on your previous experience, the weather, and how wet (or dry) the rock is at the time. Some groups benefit from a shorter more technical route, whilst others prefer a higher easier route. Often the weather decides. At the end of the day, you descend to the vehicles, and return to Windermere.
2nd day: Typically the aim is a classic route, to build up your movement skills on it, and put yesterdays training into practice. You might opt for one of the uber classics, such as Striding or Sharp Edge, or possibly to ascend Pavey Ark via Jacks Rake. A decision is generally left right until the morning, to get the latest weather reports .There are also some lesser known great easy scrambling routes, where you can really avoid the crowds, such as on Wetherlam or Pike O'Blisco, via the lesser trod routes. | | | |
