Icicle
open evenings in our Windermere office in the Lake
District
Our shop and office is based
in Windermere in the heart of the Lake District.
It is a brilliant resource in which we organise
all the course logistics, and at which we host organised
meetings with trip advisers, and also a growing
series of open evenings with presentations and Q&A
sessions with our key team. |

Alpine
summits - Mont Blanc / Eiger / Matterhorn / 4000m
This
is an event extra to the UK
Mountain Training weekend course,
that is free and open to all those who are
booked on one of our Alpine peak focused courses. The event runs from 18:00
to 19:30 at our Windermere office and shop.
You do not need to be attending the weekend
course to attend the open evening, but you
do need to e-mail to reserve space(s) and
confirm availability.
Dates: 1) 14 January 2023, or 2) 6 May 2023
We find that many people elect to attend the
full weekend, as it is designed to specifically
build and test your hill fitness, and to develop
your movement over broken mountain terrain,
so it is ideal training for Alpine summits
anyway. Why wouldn't you do everything to
stack the odds of summit success in your favour?

Exhibitions
and trade show lectures
Instead of making faceless
decisions we encourage you to meet us in person
to chat through your aspirations to ensure you are
selecting the right level of course or expedition,
at the best time of year. Most years we have a stand
at each of the largest outdoor shows, and we give talks in the main lecture
theatres. |

Adventure
Travel Show, Olympia, January
This is the showcase
event for adventure travel, and we regularly
give talks in the main theatre. LECTURE:
this year Sarah talked about climbing and
trekking at high altitude, as we are really
experienced in operating at extreme altitude.
The focus of the talks was on how to prevent
AMS, HACE, & HAPE, the three key stages
of accute mountain sickness. The talk was
based around the popular peaks of Mont Blanc,
Aconcagua and Kilimanjaro. |
|
Manchester
& Birmingham Ski Shows, Oct / Nov
These two northern
ski shows have inside ski jumping and presentations,
so there is lots to see and do. Also these
shows have a lot of retailers, for those
looking for a deal. LECTURE: the
talk that we gave at each of these shows
was about ski touring the infamous Haute
Route, that stretches from Chamonix to Zermatt
over six days. |
|
The
Outdoors Show, NEC Birmingham, March
By far the largest
outdoors show in the country, this is the
key show for all those looking at climbing,
trekking, or ski mountaineering courses
each year. LECTURE: this year, Kingsley
from our guiding team is talking about climbing
the three Alpine Giants; Mont Blanc, the
Matterhorn and the Eiger. The focus is on
preparing for these climbs, and the level
of previous experience required for each
of these mountains. |
|
London
Ski & Snowboard Show, Olympia, October
This event is the
biggest ski show in the country each year,
and it spans five days from Wednesday to
Sunday. LECTURE: at our stand we
gave regular scheduled lectures about glacier
skiing and crevasse rescue, with specific
reference to avalanche awareness. These
talks were really well attended, and were
aimed at off piste skiers. |

Destinations
Travel Show, Earls Court, February
The Destinations Travel
Show is the largest holiday show in Earls
Court each year, and it sees exhibitors
from all over the world. LECTURE:
at our stand we gave audiovisual presentations
about climbing Mont Blanc, Kilimanjaro and
Aconcagua. Each talk was given on every
day of the show, and lasted about 30 minutes. |
