British
Association of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML)
All
the Alpine trekking and snowshoeing courses
offered by Icicle, are led by qualified International
Mountain Leaders (IML's). The UK association
of IML's is called the British Association
of International Mountain Leaders (BAIML).
Internationally
many countries have IML associations, and
the umbrella organisation is the Union of
International Mountain Leader Associations
(UIMLA). This page provides more detail about
the IML training and qualification, so you
know that you are being led by the very best
in the business!
All
full IML's hold the international UIMLA carnet
for guiding.
One
of our UIMLA guiding team
has produced some key public documents for
BAIML which you can view by clicking on the

BAIML
Guide for Candidates
Why
you should hire an IML
A
document for all prospective IML's. It explains
the qualification and training process that
candidates must go through. It is also interesting
reading for all those wanting to find out
more about the qualification.
A
2 page explanation of the range of activities
offered by IML's and the scope of the qualification.
The document outlines why you should seek
to hire an IML for trekking or snowshoeing
holidays.
Continual
Professional Development (CPD)
Icicle
is widely recognised as one of the largest
guided snowshoeing and trekking companies,
that is run by qualified IMLs, and it is no
wonder that many trainee and qualified IMLs
come to us for professional training. Here
are the three areas in which we often provide
high standard professional training, led by
IMLs who are active leaders, working in the
mountains every day, who are keen to share
their experience with you.
Snowshoeing
and Winter Training - click

Many people each year enrol on one
of our professional snowshoeing courses,
which are aimed at IMLs looking for
CPD training, or perhaps those preparing
for an assessment or for quality mountain
days to start the IML training scheme.
UIMLA carnet holders get a 10% discount
on our snowshoe courses, so for further
information, please
click on this link.
As well as these scheduled courses,
we can run extra dates for two or
more people.
Trekking
and Summer Training - click
for details
If you are working towards your IML
summer assessment, you may feel you
require extra coaching in anything from
navigation to ropework, river crossings
to language skills. Get in touch with
your ideas, and we can put a course
together for you from one day to a week,
with existing clients or on your own.
We know the standards you are examined
to, and aim to train you to an even
higher level and standard than you are
examined at.
Bespoke
Training - click
for details
We are often contacted to provide bespoke
training, by those working towards their
IML, who are worried about an element
that they feel they require further
training and coaching on. We have run
everything from mock speed navigation
tests, to avalanche transceiver search
exams, and dummy assessments, so people
can guage where they are at and what
further preparation needs to be done.

Our
guide team in the UK, Alps and Worldwide
Icicle
protects its clients through it's leader guarantee
scheme.
In some of the most popular Alpine countries,
including France, it is a legal requirement
for all those paid to lead treks or snowshoeing
to be qualified as a UIMLA leader. We guarantee
that all our trek leaders are fully qualified.
Some UK trekking companies who are household
names are ignoring this law. If you book with
them and an accident occurs, your insurance
may be invalid. We invite anyone to match
our guarantee.
Icicle
has been fortunate to have several BAIML leaders
working for them over the years, and we are
always happy and keen to work with more in
the future, so if you are a BAIML member looking
for work, then please don't hesitate to get
in touch via the Mountain
Leader Jobs page of the
Icicle website.
To

by all UIMLA International Mountain
Leaders. It is your guarantee of the
highest standards in the mountains.

further questions?
A
key part of choosing a company is being able to come and
talk about your plans with an experienced course advisor
face to face. In an increasingly virtual world, we know
our clients value speaking to real people, getting open
and honest advice. The vast majority of our clients are
British, and our office and outdoor store is based in
Windermere in the English Lake District.

to discuss your course in person with a trip
